Former GTSA swimmer, and soon to be freshman at The University of South Florida, Emma Donahue was recognized along with 65 other area prep stars for demonstrating the “heart of a champion” throughout their high school careers. After three days of great swimming, GTSA amassed 451 points to win “The Peacock Invitational” with 53 more points than the nearest competitor. Of the 37 GTSA swimmers to participate in the meet, 24 of them scored individual points. That is almost 2/3 of the team! Each point was crucial in winning a meet with 14 other teams participating. Over the weekend GTSA kicked off their long course season at the “Rowdy Cup” in Winter Haven, FL. The team was represented well by 40 swimmers, participating in events chosen by the coaching staff! When the two and a half day meet had concluded GTSA had amassed 197 points, which was good enough for a 6th place finish it a meet that had 20 teams. Recently two GTSA swimmers represented our club at two very large meets. Last weekend and into this week Ally Donahue participated in the CARIFTA Games in Jamaica, representing Trinidad & Tobago. While, this weekend Morgan Tankersley was in Ft. Pierce, Florida as a member of Florida Swimming's All-Star Team in a dual meet against the Florida Gold Coast All-Stars. The CARIFTA Games, where Ally competed, is the fastest age group meet in the Caribbean Islands. She finished the four-day meet with three silver medals, and one gold. ...
Over the weekend, the best 14&under swimmers in the state of Florida met in Sarasota to compete at The 2013 Short Course Florida Age Group Championships. GTSA was represented well with fourteen swimmers. Seven of those swimmers competed in individual events over the four day meet. Although the meet did not go exactly to plan with some swimmers dealing with injuries, and illnesses the team managed to achieve some spectacular performances. This past weekend the premier senior swimmers in the state of Florida gathered in Orlando at the 2013 Florida Spring Senior Championships. GTSA was well represented by seven of our own senior swimmers. Thursday night began with distance freestyle events. This past weekend the best 18&under swimmers in the United States assembled in Knoxville, TN at USA Swimming’s Junior Nationals. Ally Donahue was able to represent GTSA in 3 individual events. She swam the 50 Freestyle, as well as the 100 & 200 Breaststrokes over the 3 day meet. Before finishing the meet with a lifetime best in the 200 Breaststroke, Ally qualified for the consolation final in the 100 Breaststroke. Friday night Ally Donahue finished her 100 Breaststroke, glanced at the clock and saw her time of 1:03.81(Automatic All-American Standard). Although that is a blistering time she was more concerned about the single number that popped up next to her lane 4, “1”. She had reached her goal of becoming FHSAA Class 3A State Champion.
