Patrick Moore Memorial Relay Meet (w/ Family Relays and BBQ)
Each year since 2010 a scholarship has been given out at the Annual Saddleback College Foundation Scholarship Ceremony from a portion of the proceeds and donations from this meet.

Patrick Moore (1990-2009)
My son, Patrick led a life that was a beautiful symphony composed by the rhythm of the waves and the tranquility of the ocean. His home, a stone’s throw from the beach, was his haven, a place where his love for all things water knew no bounds.
From the age of five, Patrick was not just a swimmer but a soul in sync with the sea, his journey with the Mission Viejo Nadadores marking the beginning of a lifelong affair with the water. His passion didn’t stop at personal achievements; at 16 he became an MVN swim school instructor, and later an MVN summer satellite coach, and then at 18 an MVN Masters swimmer, sharing his love with others.
Patrick’s high school journey at Dana Hills culminated with a varsity letter in surfing, a badge of honor for his dedication to the sport. His competitive spirit was evident, not just on the surfboard but also in the swimming lanes.
Returning to his roots in 2009, Patrick joined the Saddleback College swim team as a freshman, ready to make waves in the competitive swimming world. His dreams extended beyond the pool; he aspired to major in architecture and traverse the globe in search of the perfect wave.
Sadly, on July 17th, 2009, at the tender age of 19, we bid farewell to Patrick. His battle with Crohn’s disease and Hemophagocytic Syndrome (HLH) was fought with the courage and strength that characterized his every stroke in the water.
Patrick’s spirit, as free as the ocean breeze, and his winning smile, remain etched in the memories of those who knew him. His absence is a void that echoes with the laughter and joy he brought into our lives. His story is not just one of loss but of inspiration, a reminder to embrace life with the same zest with which he embraced the water.

2. Patrick Moore Memorial Relay Meet w/Family Relays and BBQ
Get ready for a relay fun and team spirit!
All swimmers who are swimming the relays must register on Team Unify. Select all the relays you wish to swim. You may not get them all if we don’t get enough swimmers.
If you have your team in place (4 women, 4 men, mixed 2/2) send them to me ASAP so I don’t enter you in relays when I make them.
If you don’t do relays, you can still enter FAMILY RELAYS.
Family Relays:
- Inner Tube Family Relay
- Wet T-shirt Family Relay
- Watermelon Family Relay
Participation Requirements:
- Each relay must include at least one adult (18+).
- At least two members must be from the same family.
- Families can team up, allowing two families to swim together.
