1.  Words from Coach Mark

Feel-Good Swimming

The aim of a “feel-good” swim is to transform the sensations you experience during a hard set into something positive. Instead of perceiving these sensations as negative or painful, the goal is to view them in a new, non-threatening light.

When you think about it, the only reason a hard set feels bad is because you interpret it as “hurting.” The sensations themselves can be interesting or even pleasant. It’s your perception of them as painful that makes them seem unpleasant.

You feel these sensations; they catch your attention and can be intense. However, they don’t have to be experienced as painful if you label them differently and understand that they don’t indicate any impending or actual biological damage. Instead, these sensations signal biological growth through adaptation.

Embrace the discomfort as something beneficial. Turn it into a “feel-good” experience. Seek out these sensations, make them happen, and notice them. Then, adapt to this new “feel-good” style in your swimming.

Good Luck
Coach Mark
