Words From Coach Mark
Be Smart and Use SMART Goals for 2025!
Setting SMART goals will help you feel confident and capable of reaching your targets, maximizing your performance, and staying focused. Here’s how you can use SMART goals to achieve your swimming aspirations:
Specific
Instead of a vague goal like “I want to swim faster,” set a clear target. For example, say “I will reduce my 500yd time by 10 seconds over the next three months.”
Measurable
Ensure your goals are measurable so you can track your progress. Incorporate regular ‘measurement days’ into your training schedule to assess your performance across various disciplines.
Adjustable
Your goals should be flexible. If you surpass your target quickly, it might have been too easy. Conversely, if an injury slows you down, adjust your goal accordingly. It’s okay to adapt as your circumstances change.
Realistic
Set challenging yet achievable goals. While smashing your personal best is great, setting overly ambitious targets can be demotivating. Aim for goals that stretch you but are still within reach.
Time-based
Set a deadline for your goals. For instance, cutting 10 seconds off your 500yd time within three months gives you a clear timeframe to work within. Deadlines help maintain focus and motivation.
Let’s make 2025 a year of incredible achievements in the pool!
Keep pushing your limits and remember, SMART goals are your roadmap to success.
