4. Ten Tips for Swim Meets
Here are 10 tips to help you get ready for your swim meet:
1. Keep Your Registration Handy: Always have your USMS registration card and driver's license. You might need to prove you're a registered swimmer.
2. Double-Check Your Entry: Verify your date of birth, age, club affiliation, and entered times (yards vs. meters). Don't forget to sign the back.
3. Be Early for Deck Entries: If you're entering on the day of the meet, arrive early. Deck entries are harder to manage and cost more. Bring your checkbook or exact change, and your USMS card. Fill out the entry card before getting in line.
4. Arrive Early: Early arrival means less congestion during warm-up, better parking, and a chance to confirm your name is on the heat sheets
5. Contact the Registrar or Meet Director for Issues: For registration questions, membership transfers, or address changes, contact the Membership Coordinator at [email protected] soon as possible.
6. Check-In Requirements: Check-in is often required, especially for long-distance events. Arrive early, check-in, and then warm up. Don't wait until the last minute.
7. Report Errors Promptly: If you see an incorrect entry or result, notify the computer operator with the event number, heat, lane, age group, swimmer's name, and meet ID number. Be patient as they investigate.
8. Listen to Announcements: Pay attention to the public address system for important information that could affect your event or heat.
9. Verify with Timers: Before your event, make sure the timers have your heat card and know your name to avoid mix-ups.
10. Ask Questions: If you're unsure about anything, ask! The meet director's and other contact numbers are on the entry forms for a reason.
Good luck and have fun at your swim meet!
