Words from Coach Mark

Embrace "Feel-Good" Swimming

A goal of "feel-good" swimming is transforming the sensations you experience during a hard set into something positive. Instead of viewing these sensations as painful, try to see them in a new, non-threatening light.

When you think about it, the only reason a hard set feels bad is because you perceive it as "hurting." The sensations themselves can be interesting or even pleasant. It's your perception that makes them seem unpleasant. These sensations catch your attention and can be intense, but they don't have to be painful if you label them differently.

Understand that these sensations are not causing any biological damage. Instead, they signal biological growth through adaptation. Embrace the discomfort as a sign of progress.

Make your swim a "feel-good" experience. Seek out these sensations, notice them, and make them happen. Adapt to this new "feel-good" style in your swimming, and you'll find that hard sets can become a positive and rewarding part of your training.
