2. TEAM SUPPORT SERVICE POLICY REMINDERS

SESSION 2 ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Session 2 begins April 1 and continues through August 31, 2025.

You will be assigned 6 service hours of TEAM Support. If you join after May 1, your hours will be prorated for the session.

Session 2 meets:

Sunday, June 8- LC Meet     

Sunday, July 6 – Patrick Moore Relay Meet (Will open soon)

Friday – Monday, August 15-17 – SW ZONE Championships

SW ZONE Summer Champs is a mandatory event where each member is required to work 3 hours. If you are not available to work at the mandatory events, you will be billed $50. This means that even if your service hours requirement is met, you will still need to work at the mandatory meet or be billed.

3. USMS GO THE DISTANCE

 

GTD is a yearly self-directed event intended to encourage members to regularly swim and track their progress. Distance is the important metric for this virtual event, not speed or time. Certain distance milestones also have prizes attached to them.

GTD is on the honor system—you track the distance you swim. Daily, weekly, or monthly, enter that information into your linked Swim.com app or USMS Fitness Log (FLOG). When you achieve certain milestones, you’ll have the opportunity to purchase GTD awards.

There’s no cost to enter GTD. You can register through your FLOG in the USMS My Account section of the website. Track your weekly, monthly, and annual totals online. Once you've entered GTD, your results are automatically included in the public daily summary reports, and the link to purchase your milestone awards will appear on your FLOG when you reach the various milestones.

5. WORD FROM COACH MARK

 

Perfect Streamlines

Streamline position is the most important technique you need to learn if you are trying to get better at swimming. It is the foundation of the sport.

The benefits of learning proper streamlining are endless.

Here are the four key reasons a streamlined position is so important:

1. Streamline position produces the least amount of drag in the water

2. Streamline position teaches you how to hold proper body position as you swim your full stroke

3. Streamline position teaches you how to connect your kick to your core

4. Streamline position shows you where you might be lacking the necessary mobility and flexibility to progress in swimming

 

 7 Key Points for the Perfect Streamline

1. Wrists/hands overlapped with thumb hooked.

2.  Biceps squeezing the ears, there should be no space between your biceps and your head to achieve the perfect streamline.

3.  Shoulders flexed to form a straight line with the torso and legs (not angled forward).

4. Trunk neutral. No rounding or excess arching. Some arching in the low back is acceptable, as the spine does have a natural curvature. The arch should not increase beyond your normal resting posture.

5. Tuck your chin down to your chest while keeping the back of your head in line with your neck. This will help minimize the space between your chin and chest, avoiding creating any extra drag pockets.

6. Legs fully extended and held closely together.

7. Toes pointed.  This is the MOST common mistake in streamlining.  Most swimmers are concerned about what their upper body is doing and often forget their lower body.

When you are in a streamline, it’s very important to point your toes to avoid excess drag if your feet are relaxed.

This is one of the EASIEST ways to speed up your streamlines, and it isn’t that hard to do!
