5. WORD FROM COACH MARK

Swimming Pool Etiquette: A Guide for All Skill Levels

Our team welcomes swimmers of every skill level, from those just starting to seasoned competitors. We kindly ask you to adhere to the following guidelines during your swim workouts to ensure everyone's safety and enjoyment.

Lane Usage

  • Lanes are categorized as slow, medium, or fast. If lanes are not marked, please ask the coach about the speed and skill level of swimmers already in the lane before joining.
  • Aim to join a lane with swimmers who match your pace and ability. This is crucial for maintaining a smooth flow, particularly when more than two swimmers share a lane and adopt a circular swimming pattern.

Warm-Up Procedures

  • When warming up in a lane with two or more fellow swimmers, please swim in a circular pattern, staying on the right side, similar to traffic rules on the road.

Joining a Lane

  • Select a lane that aligns with your swimming speed. Inform the current swimmers of your intention to join.
  • Avoid diving, jumping, or pushing off into the path of oncoming swimmers. If swimmers are mid-set, consider waiting until the next set begins before entering, especially if you will be the third participant in the lane.

During a Workout Set

  • If you join a lane during an ongoing workout set, integrate into the existing set rather than starting your own. This helps maintain harmony and prevents disruption. This guideline is less critical when only two swimmers are present, as they may opt to split the lane.

Swimming Patterns

  • With only two swimmers, you may either split the lane, each keeping to one side, or agree to swim in a circular pattern. Ensure clear communication with your lane partner about the chosen pattern.
  • In lanes with three or more swimmers, a circular pattern is mandatory. Always stay aware of your surroundings and swim carefully.

Following these simple rules allows us to enjoy a safe and pleasant swimming experience.

Thank you for your cooperation!
