Each year since 2010, a scholarship has been given out at the Annual Saddleback College Foundation Scholarship Ceremony.

About Patrick Moore

My son, Patrick, passed away on July 16th, 2009. He was 19 years old. His death was caused by complications from Crohn’s disease and a rare blood condition known as Hemophagocytic Syndrome (HLH).

Patrick was part of the 2009 Gaucho swim team at Saddleback Community College, where he was a freshman.

Patrick lived near the beach and loved anything associated with water. He was an avid surfer and swimmer, and competitively participated in the breaststroke, backstroke, and on swim relay teams. Pat graduated from Dana Hills High School in 2008, where he lettered in surfing.

He had been a swimmer with the Mission Viejo Nadadores since the age of six, and went on to become a swim school instructor, summer satellite coach, and Masters swimmer.

Pat planned to major in architecture and looked forward to traveling around the globe to catch the great waves. His free spirit and winning smile have been missed by all who knew him.

5. WORD FROM COACH MARK

Swimmers of all levels, abilities, and ages who consistently demonstrate a positive "confidence attitude" share three common traits:

Belief, Desire, and Persistence

1. They believe it's possible to improve their swimming fitness.

2. They have a genuine desire to improve their swimming fitness.

3. They are persistent in improving their swimming fitness.

Ask yourself--

Do you possess an 'achievement attitude?’

Do you believe in your ability to accomplish your goals? If so, what can you do this year to reinforce it?

If not, what's stopping you from applying yourself to commit?

– Transform those obstacles into opportunities.

“All things are difficult before they are easy."
Thomas Fuller
