Let’s train hard and make a splash this September!

5. Team Service Hours Support Program – SW Zone Summer Championships
The SW Zone Summer Championships is a mandatory event, and all Nadadores Masters members are asked to contribute 3 hours of volunteer service by working or swimming during the meet. These hours are essential—not just for the success of the event but for the continued strength and sustainability of our club.
As a non-profit organization, Nadadores Masters relies on the dedication of its swimmers, coaches, and programs. Our events generate vital income that keeps the program running. This success depends on our members stepping up—working together to maintain the standard of excellence we’re known for. Many club functions throughout the season also depend on active participation from our membership.
Important Reminders:
  • Members who are unable to work at this mandatory event will be assessed a $50 fee—even if their overall service hours for the season have already been met.
  • For Session 2 (April 1, 2025 - August 31, 2025), any member who does not complete any required volunteer hours will be assessed a $150 Hours Requirement Fee (HRF).
  • Members who fulfill part—but not all—of their required hours will be billed $25 per hour for each hour still owed during the volunteer session.
Your time, energy, and presence make a lasting impact. Thank you for helping make Nadadores Masters a thriving, inclusive, and high-performing community.
Need help signing up or unsure where to volunteer? We're happy to assist!

6. Words from Coach Mark
Freestyle Tip Review
-- Breathing, Reaching, and Pausing
Remember to exhale almost immediately, without a lot of force, and not fully. Hum your air out and leave a little in your tank. Try not to "suck and tuck" your air- this will cause you to need more air!
Don't wait until you are turning your head to get your next breath to exhale, as you will not have enough time to get your next breath.
"Extend" your forearm forward and reach out, keeping your hand/arm at a slight downward angle to avoid "dropped elbows". (But slightly wider than your shoulders.)
Think about pressing your armpit down and attempting to place your hands slightly wider than your shoulders. Reach wide, but toward the end of the pool. The hard part is NOT to let your hand cross over in front of your head (your centerline).
Reaching across feels like reaching forward in the water; however, this will cause you to zigzag down the pool. Be aware that when you breathe, your arm/hand will tend to want to drift toward the centerline as you turn your head back toward the bottom.
With this arm, you may need to over-emphasize an even wider entry, and may even feel like you are swimming lopsided. After your hand enters the water, there should be a slight pause (while you reach) before you initiate the pull.
You may think that you are slowing down since you are gliding and pulling right away, but you are still moving forward at this point. This will allow you to lower your stroke rate, increase efficiency, lengthen out your body, and allow the bubbles from the surface to escape your hand and arm before you begin your pull. The pause will eventually shorten when your tempo and speed increase.
GOOD LUCK!
