On the last weekend of September, ten adults represented the Vacaville Swim Team Masters program at the 40thAnnual Sprint Pentathlon held at the Schaal Aquatics Center at UC Davis. The Vacaville Swim Team traveled to Roseville, California to race in the Sierra Nevada Long Course Meters Junior Olympics July 19th – 22nd, 2012. The team consisted of 46 swimmers who competed over the four days. The meet was a trials and finals format with the top eight swimmers from the morning preliminaries racing at night in the finals. Swimmers from the National and Senior group traveled to Clovis, Ca. (August 2nd – 5th) to wrap up the long course season by racing at the Senior Western Zone Championship meet. The meet doubled in size from a year ago and hosted over 750 swimmers from Northern & Southern California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Colorado and Arizona. Over the weekend (6/8/12 - 6/10/12) the National and Senior Groups from the Vacaville Swim Team competed in the Summer Sanders Invitational. This is a long course Trials and Finals meet. As it is one of the last meets to qualify for the Olympic Trials there was a large group of swimmers competing at the meet representing the Sierra Nevada, Pacific Swimming and Oregon Swimming. The Vacaville Swim Team attended the Woodland long course BB +/- May 20 – 22, 2012. This was the second long course meet of the season for most of the swimmers. As a whole the team performed very well and is setting the stage for an excellent long course season! Over the weekend swimmers Matt Abernethy and Kyle Castro from the National Group of the Vacaville Swim Team competed at the Santa Clara International Grand Prix long course swim meet. Both swimmers gained a tremendous amount of experience competing against National and International level swimmers. Matt Abernethy dropped over seven (7) seconds in the 400 Freestyle and two (2) seconds in the 100 Butterfly. Vacaville Masters swimmers had an outstanding meet at the recent Pacific Masters Swimming Championships held at Campolindo High School in Moraga, CA. The Vacaville Swim Team traveled May 5th & 6th to compete in Davis. This was a short course yards meet giving a lot of our younger swimmers more race experience. The Vacaville Swim Team traveled to Folsom over the past weekend with 70 swimmers representing the team. This was the first long course meet of the season for the vast majority of the team. The Vacaville Swim Team sent a group of swimmers to compete at the short course yards Far Western Championships, March 29th - April 1st, 2012.There were over 1700 athletes competing and over 12 different States represented at the meet.
