The National group traveled to Arizona to compete in the Holiday Festival at Arizona State University as their season-ending meet for the fall/winter season. For many swimmers in the group this was their first experience traveling out of state to compete in a swim meet. The weekend was a long, but fun and fast one for us, filled with many best times, and “firsts” for the group. Overall I was extremely proud of the way the group performed and thought that this was an excellent learning experience for the entire...
From Coach Lauren: Red/White: Red and White swam fantastic races at the Gobbler Classic. Despite the cold temperatures and long days, everyone swam fast! Congratulations to Jayla Boyd, Rylie Johnson, and Juliette Alagao for all achieving their personal best times in the 50 free! Maya Gioia, Ainsley Orick, Shae McCord, Tiare Holokahi all swam great races and improved their techniques. Daniel Muller, Ethan Bline, Arlton Cabanero, and Liam Kerr had fast turns, good streamlines, and great technique all weekend! Great job swimmers! Jr2: Junior 2 had a great meet at...
From Coach Wedaman: The weather has continued to be very cooperative and we took advantage of it. Senior 1 has been preparing to be fast in all of their races with good technique and good aerobic training. The group had some outstanding swims starting with Tim Lee’s 100 yard Freestyle where hebroke 13 -14 year olds team record set in 1986 by going 49.55. Congrats Tim! Boyd Abernethy got a new Far Western time in the 100 Butterfly. Other swimmers placing in the top 18, these are the swimmers who...
For the second consecutive year the Valero corporation, through its Texas Open Children's Benefit golf tournament, has made a substantial donation to our swim team! This year, we were the recepients of a $10,000 grant from Valero! This money will be used to benefit the team in a variety of ways, including scholarships, purchasing new team equipment, and other programs. We are extremely grateful to the employees of Valero for their generosity and for including us in their giving campaign. Congratulations to the team for the amazing work it does!...
From Coach Brad: With little more than a month until their season-ending, championship meet in Arizona, the National group participated in a quad meet with swimmers from SASO, Vallejo, and Aqua-Sol this past weekend at Solano Community College. This meet was the swimmers' final tune up meet, where the goal was to implement any changes they have made in practice into their racing in an effort to see their progress toward their season-end goals. Overall, I could not have been happier with the results! The group all came out Friday...
From Coach Jared: This was many of our swimmers’ first swim meet and everyone swam well! Before the meet we really focused on streamlines and freestyle flip turns. I was keeping my eyes especially focused on these specifics from all of the swimmers during their races. As a whole the red and white groups had some great streamlines off their walls and our freestyle turns are developing nicely. There were many new best times and time standards achieved. By the time Junior Olympics rolls around Red and White will have...
Our annual Swim-A-Million fundraiser was Saturday, Oct. 26th. Swimmers from every group came together, including our masters swimmers, to try to swim one million yards as a team! For the past several weeks our swimmers have been working diligently to earn donations for our team while preparing for a challenging day of swimming in an effort to reach that one million yard total. Saturday morning the masters hit the water first, with the National group jumping in only 30 minutes later (in the dark and cold of the late fall...
From Coach Jared: This was my first chance to see some of my new Red and White swimmers compete. Their enthusiasm was palpable! It made the meet a lot of fun for me to coach. Each swimmer that attended earned multiple new best times. Some of these new best times were BB and A times! With just one meet under our belt, I feel confident we will be taking a BIG group of swimmers to the 2014 Junior Olympics! From Coach Megan: The Vallejo Meet was a great way to...
At the first meet of the year we achieved 83% best times - way to go Wave! This is especially impressive with the incredible September rain on Saturday. The swimmers showed that they were prepared and excited to get the season started. The swimmers were from Gold, JR 1, and SR 1 and had been reviewing their 4 strokes and working on drills and being efficient in the water. This was apparent as many swimmers swam best times in almost all of their events: Natalie Feike had 3 out of...
