SAFE SPORT

FAST Falcons are committed to providing a safe, healthy, and positive environment for athletes as they seek to achieve their goals in our sport. Below are links to information, policies, and best practices that have been implemented with athlete, parent, volunteer, and coach safety and inclusion in mind. We encourage every athlete and parent to be aware of USA Swimming's Safe Sport requirements.

WHAT IS SAFE SPORT

Safe Sport is USA Swimming’s comprehensive abuse prevention program and provides tools for swim clubs to educate their members and intervene in risky situations. Safe Sport’s goal is to Prevent and Respond to abuse and misconduct. Safe Sport is designed to foster a fun, healthy, and safe environment. Creating a safe place for athletes to compete and train. By working together as coaches, swimmers, parents, and volunteers we can ensure all USA Swimming members are supported in a safe and dependable environment both in and out of the pool.

5 TIPS FOR PARENTS

(BY USA SWIMMING -- CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE PDF VERSION)

  • GET EDUCATED: Education is the most important tool for combatting misconduct. Look for resources that can help you understand how abuse occurs and what you can do about it.
  • CREATE HEALTHY BOUNDARIES: It’s important to establish healthy boundaries between athletes and coaches and have clear expectations about the coach’s role. A coach is a teacher & mentor, not a friend or peer.
  • IDENTIFY & ADDRESS HIGH RISK AREAS: For misconduct to take place, an offender needs privacy, access, and control. Some high-risk areas include travel, locker rooms & electronic communication.
  • SPEAK UP: If you recognize questionable behaviors, say something! FAST Falcons designated representative is Dale Zamecki. Contact him at: [email protected]
  • TALK TO YOUR KIDS!: Physical & sexual misconduct can be a hard topic for parents to talk about with their children. Having these conversations is extremely important in helping your child from becoming a victim of abuse.

CODE OF CONDUCT

The purpose of a code of conduct is to establish common expectations for all members of the coaching staff, parents, and swimmers at FAST. It is to be used as a guide to promoting a positive team environment and good sportsmanship.
