JUNIOR I
Members of this group are expected to be familiar with all four strokes, turns, and starts. Swimmers may enter the Junior I group with limited swim meet experience. Swim meet attendance is highly encouraged for members of this group, but not required. The focus of this group will be on continued stroke improvement, race strategy, proper training techniques and conditioning, as well as the introduction of longer races. The primary age group is 13 and 14 year olds. 6 practices are offered per week with a recommended minimum of 5 practices per week. For advancement to Junior II, 6 practices per week are strongly recommended.
PRACTICE DAYS
Monday-Friday and Saturday.
PRACTICE OBJECTIVES AND STANDARDS
In this group, we ask for an increased level of commitment, which is an average of 5 practices per week. The swimmer will work on proper technique and will begin to build endurance at a higher rate during training. Coaches will help each swimmer set goal times appropriate to his or her current skill level, with personal improvement as the primary focus. Participation in meets at the highest level of qualification is expected.
EQUIPMENT REQUIRED
Falcons team cap at practice during the week. Well-fitting suit (such as jammers for boys and 1-piece for girls), cap, goggles, silicone fins, paddles, snorkel, full water bottle and mesh bag. Nose plugs are optional, but encouraged.
ADVANCEMENT
Swimmers may advance to the Junior II or Senior I groups from Junior I. In addition to the coach's discretion, swimmers' placement will be determined by a variety of measurements. Swimmers who would like to advance to Junior II must be comfortable making 10x100 (yards) Freestyle on 1:20, 10x100 IM on 1:30, and 10x100 Kick on 1:45.
