Why Our Practice Groups Matter
This year, we’re building a team culture that’s all about the growth and development of every swimmer. One of the most important changes we’re making is creating structured, non-flexible practice groups — and here’s why it matters.
When swimmers train with peers who are at the same level, practices become more productive, challenging, and motivating. Everyone in the lane is working at a similar pace, focusing on skills and sets that match their current abilities. This prevents faster swimmers from being held back and ensures developing swimmers aren’t overwhelmed. It also builds camaraderie — training alongside peers with the same goals fosters healthy competition and stronger team bonds.
Rather than combining multiple ages and abilities in the same session, we’re introducing strict tryouts to place each athlete in the practice group where they will thrive. With seven distinct training groups, every swimmer has a spot tailored to their needs, whether they’re perfecting fundamentals or chasing championship times.
This approach ensures that every lap, every drill, and every workout is designed for maximum improvement. And with the level of focus and dedication we’re bringing this year, we have no doubt we’ll see a strong wave of Otters at championships. So claim your spot, commit to the work, and get ready for our most successful season yet!
