MEY Manta Ray Attendance Agreement

Consistent attendance and punctuality are key to both individual success and the strength of our team. Swimmers who train regularly, give full effort, and follow expectations see the greatest progress and contribute to a positive training environment.

1) Minimum Attendance Policy

  • All MEY Manta Ray swimmers are required to attend a minimum number of practices per week based on practice groups.
  • Excused absences (e.g., illness, family emergencies, or vacations) must be communicated in advance to the coaching staff, with a written note or email from a parent/guardian.
  • Swimmers unable to meet the minimum for multiple weeks must speak with their coach to discuss expectations and ongoing participation.

2) Group-Specific Attendance Expectations (Weekly Targets)

Percent goals are measured across the season. If you’ll miss planned sessions (travel, illness, school events), please email your coach in advance. When percentages produce a fraction, round up to whole practices.

Junior 1 & Junior 2

  • Weekly Offerings: 3-4 practices
  • Attendance Target: 52–60%
  • Equivalent Weekly Days: ≈ 2 of 3 (minimum 2; 3 encouraged)

Junior 3, Junior 4 & Senior

  • Weekly Offerings: 5 practices
  • Attendance Target: 60–70%
  • Equivalent Weekly Days: ≈ 3–4 of 5 (minimum 3; 4 encouraged)

Junior Elite & Senior Elite

  • Weekly Offerings: 6 practices
  • Attendance Target: 80%
  • Equivalent Weekly Days: ≈ 5 of 6 (minimum 4; target 5)

3) Consequences for Insufficient Attendance

  1. First Week Missed (Unexcused): Verbal warning from coach.
  2. Second Offense: Email notice sent to parent/guardian.
  3. Third Offense or Pattern of Absences: Further consequences determined by the coaching staff may include:
    • Suspension from the team (1–4 weeks)
    • Transfer to lower commitment group
    • Expulsion from the MEY program
    • Financial consequences (no refunds or prorated credits for missed training time)

4) Punctuality Policy & Late Arrival Consequences

Swimmers are expected to arrive on time and be ready to begin at the scheduled start of practice.

  • After 3 late arrivals: Verbal warning
  • Late arrivals 4–6: Written warning sent to parent/guardian
  • Late arrivals 7–9: Mandatory meeting with swimmer, parent/guardian, and coaching staff
  • Continued tardiness: Coaching staff may impose one or more of the following:
    • Suspension from training (1–4 weeks)
    • Transfer to lower commitment group
    • Financial penalties
    • Other sanctions the coaching staff deems appropriate

5) Roster Status for Next Season (Good Standing & Tryouts)

  • Good Standing Benefit: Swimmers who meet attendance and punctuality expectations and maintain good standing (including conduct and account status) will not be required to re-tryout for the next MEY season.
  • If Not in Good Standing: Swimmers who do not meet expectations will be required to try out again for the next season.
  • Waitlist Note: If there is a waitlist and roster spots are limited, swimmers who consistently are not following the attendance policy or not in good standing may lose their spot to waitlisted athletes if deemed appropriate by the coaching staff.

(Good standing includes: meeting the minimum or approved excused absences, consistent punctuality, positive conduct, and accounts in good financial standing.)

6) Behavioral Expectations

To maintain a respectful and productive training environment, all swimmers must:

  • Arrive prepared to give 100% effort each day
  • Follow coach directions without disruption
  • Respect teammates and coaches at all times
  • Remain attentive during dryland, drills, starts, and stroke work

By participating in the MEY Manta Ray program, each swimmer and their family agrees to uphold the above policies and understand the consequences of not meeting attendance, punctuality, and conduct standards.
