On Monday, May 8th, the Falcons spent time with Florida Swimming's Safe Sport Director, Mrs. Cori Welbes. Mrs. Welbes led a team building activity with Red, White, Blue, Junior I, Junior II, Senior I, and Senior II swimmers. She then showed a video on friendships and bullying, and each group had a great discussion on how to "be the bigger bird." Congratulations to Bryce LaBonte, who was one of fifty-two athletes from around the country selected to USA Swimming's National Diversity Camp. Bryce will spend four days at the Olympic Training Center, where he will practice twice a day and attend classroom sessions that range from stroke mechanics to sports psychology. The Falcons competed this past weekend at Camp Winona in a 5k or 2k open water swim! Competing in the 5k was Aiden Chang, Jeffrey Wolfe, Logan Martin, Austin Zamecki, Layla Watson, Alexandra Zamecki, Nicole Shanks and Evie Milak. Logan Martin finished 5th in the 15 and over mens category with Nicole Shanks finishing 3rd for the 15 and over women. Layla Watson finished 5th for the 13-14 women. We are pleased to share our club has achieved USA Swimming’s Safe Sport Club Recognition. This recognition reflects our commitment to providing a healthy and positive environment free from abuse for all team members. In order to apply for Safe Sport Club Recognition, we were required to develop and implement club governance measures, Safe Sport policies and reporting mechanisms, Safe Sport best practices as well as training to athletes and parents. Falcons swimmers wrapped up a fantastic weekend of racing at the North FLAGS site in Claremont March 2nd-March 5th. We will be posting their achievements and recognizing their efforts over the next few days. First up our individual champions! Congratulations! USA Swimming is selecting applications for their 2023 USA Swimming Regional Diversity Select Camp. Girls must be ages 11-13 and boys must be ages 12-14. Amryn Reynolds had the winning ticket at our Polar Bear Plunge meet and took home our giant polar bear. FAST swimmers logged nearly 400 best times during the competition, but it was ticket #331 that Amryn earned for swimming a personal best in her 50 freestyle of 53.03. Amryn raced in seven events total and had a personal best in 50 backstroke as well at 1:00.54. She also swam the 50 breast for the first time logging an official time of 1:30.98.
