Storm Hires Michael White as Head Coach

Sun Prairie Storm is proud to welcome Michael White as its New Full-Time Head Coach.  “As we enter this next chapter of our team's development, as a board we knew that the depth of experience that Michael brought to the table was needed to help the Storm achieve an even greater level of excellence!” Brad Gunnink, SPS Board President.

“The foundation for the Sun Prairie Storm is strong, supported by a large group of swimmers and an excited and passionate base of involved parents.  I’m looking forward to the challenge of working with the swimmers, the parents, and the community to help Storm reach its full potential as a club.  I couldn’t be more excited for the future of the program and the idea that I’ll get to play a part in it,” Michael White. “Wisconsin is known around the nation for its high level of swimming at all ages.  I can’t wait to be a part of swimming in the community and I thank the board for giving me the opportunity to coach the team.”

Michael joins the Storm after two successful years as the Head Age Group Coach and Masters Coach for the Razorback Aquatic Club AquaHawgs in Springdale, Arkansas.  Several of his swimmers broke team, state, and LSC records—including top 20 in the nation results.  They also qualified for the Central Zone Age Group Championships and Speedo Sectional Championships.  Over his two years with the AquaHawgs, the team increased in size by 50%, retained swimmers at record numbers, and enjoyed their highest national virtual club ranking ever.

Prior to coaching the AquaHawgs, Michael was the head coach for the HYCAT program in Huntington, West Virginia.  During this time, the team doubled in size and had regional, zone, and YMCA National qualifiers.  Michael was the 2012 Southern Zone Team Head Coach, the 2012 West Virginia Open Water Select Camp Head Coach, and the 2012 West Virginia Swimming Age Group Coach of the Year.

Before joining HYCAT, Michael was a grade school teacher and high school swim coach for five years.  He graduated with a degree in Elementary Education in 2005 from Marshall University.  Michael was a competitive swimmer for 7 years and was a YMCA Zone Qualifier, a West Virginia State Qualifier, and the captain of his high school swim team.

Fall Registration will begin for Sun Prairie Storm on Sunday, August 3rd.  Swimmers and parents are encouraged to attend the Fall Registration Meeting on Monday, August 4th at 7:00 at the Westside Community Building.  Coach Michael will be there to share his vision for the team!  For more information on the team or fall registration go online to spstorm.com.
