Storm Forecast for February 7th, 2024
Group Restructuring
Some of you have already noticed hints of it, but we’re doing a bit of work to restructure groups to fit the needs of all of our swimmers a bit better. Things you’ll see different this spring:
Thunderstorm: 1 group instead of 2 (We’ll be back to 2 groups in the fall/winter sessions)
Tsunami: Some of you might remember the group name, but it’s a bit different now. This group will slot between the Hurricane & Cyclone groups. Hurricane will work more as a bridge group, helping transition newer and novice 11&O swimmers onto the team more efficiently.
Performance: 20% of our families always struggled to remember which Senior group was which, so we’ve left the Senior group “as is,” and we’ll be creating a higher level group that Coach Lake will be introducing to the existing SR group in the coming weeks.
We’ll be adding more in-depth details to each group and what you should expect from them in the next week or two.
Spring Practice Schedule Posted
The *in water* portion of the spring schedule has been posted. We’ll still need to confirm times for dryland, but you can get a good look now at what to expect from April 1 through Memorial Day weekend.
Spring session signup will happen the last two weeks of March so while we’ve got some time, coaches will be putting session info up as soon as group details are complete.
Pool Chemistry Questions
A few times this season, I’ve had a parent ask me about their itchy kids after swim practice. Pre-COVID, most kids were showering and changing in the locker rooms after practice. That practice has never come back and while it may make you stay at the pool a few minutes longer than you want, a quick rinse and soap with body wash, BEFORE AND AFTER will 1) minimize the chemical reactions in the pool and 2) make sure whatever is in the water isn’t going home on your child. I have talked to the pool managers about the concerns of the parents, and they’re looking into it on their end—but we can do our part with rinsing before & after. If your swimmer is one of those itchy kids, be sure to let me know so we can track days to find trends.
Team Pictures
Historically, we've done team pictures the Monday of Regionals and it's a downright terrible time. High school boys are racing back after their practice, coaches are antsy because we need practice the week of the champs meet, and it's just bad. Instead, we've set Monday, April 8th as our picture date. Team and individual pictures will be taken.
Other April Activities
Once we resume practice on April 1st, we've got some things we're cooking up:
- April 6th--Parent Practice: Some of the kids will get the opportunity to coach the parents on a Saturday morning. So all that advice you've been giving them, expect to get it back in spades.
- April 7th--Team Banquet
- April 27th--Kalahari Day

Golf Scramble Committee
Last year, we hosted our inaugural Spring Golf Scramble at the Oaks. Our 2024 date is Sunday, May 5th at The Oaks in Cottage Grove. We’d love to make this one bigger and better, starting with the formation of a committee to help plan the event. We’ll have a few meetings over the course of the next few weeks/months. If you’d be interested in helping out, email Erin at [email protected] .
Note for High School Boys
If your high school has come up with a plan for the remainder of the session, please sign up for the weeks they’ll be participating. With several options based on when swimmers finish high school, start club, and finish club, we’ve created a quick checklist on how to rejoin. If you need to wait to figure out a start date, that’s ok!
