Extended Forecast for July 9th, 2024

Michael White

Extended Forecast (staying with my weather puns)

Since the summer is typically an easier going affair, the news and deadlines tend to come in a bit slower so I hope that you don’t mind a week off from the newsletter. We’ll likely skip next week and do the next one in two weeks, as well.

Parade Float? Pt 2

A drenched Erin indicated that the Token Creek Parade was a great success.  Now we start planning for Corn Fest 2024, and the parade on August 14th at 6pm.  This is open to all our swimmers and coaches.  This year, we’d love to create a real float for the parade.  Rather than simply walking with a banner, having a trailer decorated for swimmers to be a part of.  We have a theme: The Olympics.  We have a place to decorate it.  We have a company to tow the trailer.  What we don’t have is: 1) a trailer long enough to be float-worthy, and 2) a real commitment from families that would be creative/dedicated enough to create a parade float from scratch.  If you’ve got a big ol’ trailer that can be towed through the Cornfest parade, and/or the need for a creative outlet in some parade float design and decoration, let me know!  We have several training groups that are excited and willing to help, but we could use a leader for this.

Olympic Watch Party Open

We had a wonderful time watching the Olympic Trials at Marcus Cinemas and sold out FAST.  So we’ve added an Olympic afternoon.  July 29th, we’ll start bringing swimmers in a little after 1pm (please don’t arrive before 1!).  Get your food and beverages, with racing starting at 1:30.  Only 90 minutes of racing (no distance event).  Tickets are again $10 and we’ve got spots for 100.  Storm Swimmers, Piranhas, Magicians, even swimmers from other USA teams—they’re all invited.

Practice Updates & Changes

The last day for many swimmers will be Thursday, July 18th.  At that point, we’ll say goodbye to our Masters swimmers for the remainder of the summer and bid farewell to those that aren’t participating in Regionals, the LSC Champs, or the final Rising Stars Meet.  If you’re participating in any of those, go through the last day of competition and then you’re all finished for the summer.

Wednesday, July 10th
Evening practice: No Thunderstorm, Tropical Storm, or Hurricane practice.  Only Cyclone and Typhoon have practice, both from 5:30-6:40P

Monday, July 22nd

This will start a modified schedule for the remaining swimmers—we’re still confirming a couple changes with West being drained at the end of July, and we’ll send something to families closer to time.

Make A Splash

Nearly 80% of children in households with income less than $50,000 have little-to-no swim ability.  Swim lessons can reduce the likelihood of childhood drowning by 88%.

Storm Aquatics is committed to making swim lessons available for every child in the community, regardless of their financial situation.

We’re providing a week of water safety instruction and swim lessons to underprivileged children in the greater Sun Prairie area.  These lessons are completely free and will help children feel safer in the water.  If you know of a family without means of access to lessons, please pass this along to them.

Date: August 5-6-7-8, 2024

Location: Sun Prairie East High School (door #20)

Time 5:30-6:30P

For: 10-20 swimmers, age 7-15

More details can be found on our Make-A-Splash button.

If you have a 13&O swimmer that would like to volunteer for this, please have them email Coach White

Fall Updates

Fall dates are up on the website!  We’ve got dates for new swimmer evaluations, registration dates, session dates, and by the end of the week we’ll have a tentative USA meet schedule.

We’ll have a separate email out in regard to the following items: fall move-ups (expect in a few weeks) and practice variables.
