Storm Forecast for September 25th, 2024

Michael White

Winter Is Coming

As we’ve been lucky to have some great fall weather and only a few days even sneaking into the 60s, we’re constantly looking ahead at the extended forecast to see when things are going to turn on us and ruin the beautiful outdoor evenings.  Peeking at the super extended forecast on Accuweather, it looks like the end of our 60s and 70s will happen on the 14th of October, so our last week outside will wrap up October 12th.  Once we get inside, we’re looking at a schedule that’s a bit different that our initial plan but fear not—nothing is too awful.  We’ll have the new schedule up by the end of the weekend.

Elite Apparel Order

The Elite Apparel Order is out!  It’s got everything from our daily wear shirts (black on Friday, red on Saturday, blue on Sunday) to long sleeve shirts for cold gyms to tank tops for the Sun Prairie East pool deck to insulated vests for the February golf rounds. The order is open through October 6th.

Practice Changes

We have some tentative changes we’re planning for…

Friday, Sun Prairie West probably won’t be available to us because of a meet at SP East.  If by some miracle they find staffing, we’ll run Friday at West as usual, but with a little consolidation at TPC Wisconsin.

However, we’ve got a backup plan we’re waiting to get a blessing on:

Friday, September 27th Backup Plan
Thunderstorm 1 & 2: 5:00-5:50P at Fall River School
Typhoon 5:50-7:00P at Fall River School
Cyclone/Tsunami 5:00-6:05P at TPC Wisconsin
Senior/Performance 6:05-7:20P at TPC Wisconsin
No Dryland

Saturday, September 28th (all at SP West)

Senior/Performance 6:30-8:00A
Typhoon 6:45-8:00A
Tsunami/Cyclone 8:00-9:10A
Tropical Storm 9:10-10:00A
Thunderstorm 9:10-10:00A (Get acclimated to the pool and blocks before the meet!)

Blood Drive

On September 28th from 8:30-1:30P at the Westside Community Building, Storm Aquatics will host a blood drive.  All donors will receive a $15 eGift Card.  Register here to help save a life.  We could really use a couple volunteers willing to help check people in.  Click the job signup on our event page if you’d be willing.

USA Motivational Times

Erin touched on the USA Swimming Motivational Times in an earlier email this week and I wanted to go a bit more into how they work.  USA Swimming does much of their planning in “Olympic Quads,” the 4 years leading up to and including each Olympic swimming competition.  So right now, we’re in the 2024-2028 quad, which will wrap up in LA’28.  Anyway, after a quad wraps up they’ll compile all the times from the 4 years and come up with a Top 16 list.  They’ll apply some formulas to those times and come up with a B-BB-A-AA-AAA-AAAA scale to them.  A swimmer with a B cut is in the top 55% of the nation for their age group for a specific event.  BB=Top 35%, A=Top 15%...and it gets harder and harder.  These standards are great for gauging progress year over year.  The 2024-2028 standards are live!  For 10&U and 11-12, things got a bit slower.  For 13&O, many got a bit quicker.  When your swimmer achieves a new standard, we’ll recognize it on our swim meet recaps on social media.  And in their mailbox, they’ll receive a lovely bag tag to commemorate it.
