The First Meet

What a whirlwind the first meet always seems to be.  Not only is it the first meet for many of our volunteers, but the first step up on the Sun Prairie West blocks for around 20% of the swimmers (that’s 100 nervous little swimmers), the first time officiating for several of those in white, the first time many parents are wondering “how chill am I supposed to be while my child is swimming?”  Hosting the first meet means navigating all those nerves collectively, and we did a fantastic job.  We handled AM bumps, PM tears, the single busiest session since before COVID….and we looked great doing it!  A hats off to all the people who devoted time to making it work so smoothly.  This time, a special shout out to Amy Schuster and Melissa Meyer.  They’ve been our volunteer coordinators for a while now, and the way they play jazz with volunteer positions as they change, as kids get sick, as families forget to attend—no matter the situation, they’ve always kept us moving.  THANK YOU!  And thanks to everyone.  Home meets are such a stressful time, but the volunteers on this team make the work so much easier for me.

Meet Results

There are several places that swimmers can find out how they’ve done at a meet.  At the majority of meets, Meet Mobile will be active and you can see unofficial results in semi-real time.  When we host a meet, we put a full PDF of results on our Hosted Meets page.  These results are especially helpful as our wonderful administrative officials put in DQ codes for every infraction.  So if you’re not sure why your swimmer was disqualified in a race, you can track down details there.  I also upload results to Swimcloud for each meet.  And there’s an easily digestible meet recap on our Facebook page.  There are even other ways to track down details like time standards and progress, but that’s plenty for this post.

The Next Meet

This Saturday, we’ll have our first Rising Stars Dual of the season.  It’s the opposite of last weekend in every way.  Only two teams, us and Cambridge.  No officials to DQ swimmers.  We might get heat sheets Friday night, we might not.   From first event to last event, somewhere around 90 minutes to two hours.  It’s fast, it’s easy, it’s fun.  We’ll need a few folks to step up and volunteer to time—otherwise, no mandatory work shifts.  The details, as we have them, are here and will be updated as we get more.  One note: make sure you head to the elementary school, not the high school!
