Storm Forecast for December 4th, 2024
Bringing Boys Back to the Sport
Back a decade ago, we were extremely lucky to have an almost even 50/50 split girls to boys on the team. While Wisconsin Swimming was 65/35 boys, we were split evenly. The seeds of that were planted in 2014, and sprouted with huge team success at all levels with boys from 2019-2023. However, for whatever reason our team has now dipped below the national average with boys swimming. Sun Prairie East, having claimed a State Championship just a few years ago, now faces the reality of needing to co-op with another school. As a program, we’re looking at causes and potential solutions to retain the remaining boys we have and to bring new boys into the sport. Over the next few months and years you’ll see several ideas put into practice to try and bring more boys into the program and keep them there.
To that end, SP East and SP West Boys Booster Clubs are running a Swim Community Youth Night next Friday at SP West during their rivalry meet. The meet will start at 5:30 at and has lots of fun activities planned. Details can be found on our event page. We believe that when our young swimmers, especially our boys, see high school boys compete at a high level it’ll give them something to strive for and will help keep them in the sport of swimming longer.
Meet Odds & Ends
BAC Meet
All details are now posted!
Single Age Champs
Following the conclusion of the BAC meet, we’ll rush into our last minute changes for the Single Age Champs, including new qualifiers and relay changes. If you have a swimmer that qualifies for the meet during the BAC meet, please start doing your homework AT Sauk Prairie. We’ve got a quick turnaround.
Thunderstorm/Hurricane Time Trial
The Meet
A closed time trial for Thunderstorm & Hurricane, no entry fees. Little to no volunteering, perfect for new swimmers and new families alike. If you’re coming, please bring a pack of new underwear for the clothing drive.
The Volunteer Effort
Seniors and Typhoons have been emailed about volunteering for the event. Please consider helping make this event a success.
The Clothing Drive
Even if you’re not part of the event, it would be fantastic if during your Christmas shopping you picked up a pack of kids’ underwear for the Clothing Drive. It’s important to our Typhoon group that their first foray into community service projects bears some fruit. We’ll have a box at East and West pools for the week leading up to the meet.
Distance Challenge
The signup is now open for the Distance Challenge. It’s open to all groups but Thunderstorm. Coaches will pick events for swimmers this year. This way, you can point to us when your child looks at you in terror upon realizing they’re swimming a long event.

A New Fundraiser
In reviewing our previous survey to members, we’re trying to rotate 3 big fundraisers, one per year. Last year as you remember we did the reverse raffle. Next year: dusting off the Storm-A-Thon. This year, we’re doing a shrimp sale. By far, the tastiest of the three options. If each family commits to buying (or selling to a neighbor) just one bag, it would have a huge, far-ranging effect for the team.
