Shorter Parent Education Session This Week!

In lieu of another long, weekly sermon I wanted to share a resource I found to be pretty helpful: the Sports Parent Handbook.  It’s very general (not swim specific) but contains some really valuable lessons.

Team Pictures on Monday

This year’s Team Picture session has snuck right up on us!  Gretchen Willis Photography did a wonderful job last year and will be back again this year.  Swimmers will be an individual photo and a large group photo.  Pictures will take place at Sun Prairie West.  This is for Fall ’24 swimmers as well as swimmers in the winter session AND high school boys.  Wear your red shirt from this year & black shorts.  If you want your individual picture in your swimsuit, wear it underneath.  The full schedule is down below in the “practice changes” portion.

Service Project

Our Typhoon swimmers have been clamoring for some service projects and I believe I’ve got us connected for one.  We’ll partner with the Sun Prairie Rotary to support Sunshine Supper’s Free Meal Monday on Monday, March 3^rd.  We’re still ironing out details, but we’ll utilize a few volunteers for a 4:00-6:30 shift.

Spring/Summer Session Plans

For those of you who are new to the program, we’ve got only a few weeks left to go in the winter session.  80% of the team will wrap up either at the BCSC Championship or at Regionals, with 20% moving on to a championship meet.  Most of our swimmers get much of March off.  The majority come back for our spring session which starts right after Spring Break, while some will move to another sport.  Because of the year-to-year changes, it’s helpful for us to get numbers of what to expect.  The two looming questions: will we be able to consolidate our Thunderstorm groups, and which groups can share the pool?  Let us know what you’re thinking for the spring and summer sessions here.

Swimmer Move-Ups

We’ve already begun talking as a staff about move-ups for the spring session.  It’s one of the larger windows of change, and we’ll look at swimmers who are moving to another group due to age and those who move to another group for a different training experience.  We’ll be using the last few weeks of this season to figure out our last few swimmer placements (we’re down to a dozen left to figure out!).  We won’t start officially notifying families until we have the full picture complete so as not to create the “Sally’s mom heard something but we haven’t!” panic.
