Getting Involved

As we’re getting closer to our first official meet of the season, new families will start to realize the number of moving parts, the scale of our meets, and the wide variety of volunteers we have working to make a great experience for coaches, parents, officials, and swimmers alike.  There’s a role for everyone, whether you’re a seasoned pro at swim meets or you’ve never seen one before this year.

A few roles I wanted to bring to your attention:

Officials – If you’re familiar with what the strokes look like, maybe you’d want to be a stroke & turn official.  If you’re smooth on a computer, working the timing system or the meet management computer might be a good fit.  A couple really nice perks about being an official 1) you get in the preferred registration category and can register before the general public and 2) any time you’re working a meet (whether home or away) we’re paying for one of your swimmer’s meet fees.  Yep, they swim for free because your role is that important to us.  If you’d be interested in donning the whites, email Michelle Schmitt.  She’s been involved with the team since 2013—it’s been YEARS since she’s had a swimmer in the program and she keeps giving back.  Email her here.

Meet Marshals – A slightly less intense role is that of the meet marshal.  They’re patrolling the pool deck and areas where swimmers are wandering, just keeping an eye on things and keeping people safe.  It’s a role Storm takes seriously, and we require Meet Marshals to be background checked and trained.  If you want to learn more about this job and what it entails, our Meet Director Emily is the perfect person to contact.

Swim Caps

We’ve had a few questions about caps over the last few days.
Q. How long do I have to wear this white cap?    A. If you’re a new swimmer, wear the white cap through the end of September.  After that, you can wear any cap or none at all.
Q. When do I get my first team cap?  A. 47 POUNDS of caps just arrived at my apartment today.  We’ll distribute caps to new swimmers right before our October 4th first meet.
Q.  I ordered a cap with my name on it, when do I get it?  A.  Historically, we’ve seen these caps in mid October.  Definitely not before the first meet.  They come by ship from China, and you’ve seen that things coming from China haven’t had the best history of late so….fingers crossed.

Q.  I ripped my cap.  How do I get another?  A.  We’ll be selling them on our swim store within the week!  Previously, we were losing upwards of $1,000 a year on replacement caps so we’re selling them right around the cost to us, just to be more responsible with inventory.

Elite Clothing Order

Elite Embroidery has their fall order up.  It’s got a lot of clothes, including a lovely blue hoodie (our official color for the year’s clothing).  Deadline for this order is September 30th.
