Meet Recap

There are always pros and cons to hosting meets versus going to someone else’s meet.  It takes a lot more prep, including committee meetings, volunteer organization—tons of man (and woman) hours.  As a coach, it’s significantly harder to be fully in the moment and watching races, because if something breaks it’s up to us to fix it (see: livestream).  But, it does mean more of our kids come out and race, which is fantastic.  And in our case, these meets become an excellent showcase of what our club is capable of doing when working together.  From Terry & Anke making sure everyone in the building (including the football team) is getting fed, to Emily overseeing dozens of things, to Brian networking computers, to Erin’s bright sponsor banners adding ambiance—there are so many moving parts, and I firmly believe we put on the best *production* in Dane County.  This year, we were able to enhance the scoreboard, giving you almost too much information at your fingertips.  Comfortable areas off deck to rest.  Unique heat winner prizes…so many things that you won’t catch at other meets that really enhance the experience.  To all those who added their flavor to the fall meet, thank you so much.  You’ve made our meets the envy of many teams.  A local coach quote: “We really love your meets, well run, very efficient, comfortable and a great environment and facility.  It had been a few years since we attended due to a scheduling conflict last year, but we will be back!  I am looking at your winter/spring meet as well.”  When we make these meets run so well and bring in hundreds of kids, everyone in Sun Prairie and around it benefits.

Simply Swimming Order

Everything from Simply Swimming has made it to families or if not—folders.  If you’re still missing something, please let me know.

Folders

Speaking of folders, a quick thing on them.  Each school has a set of file folder boxes.  They’re sorted by where your swimmer practices the most.  If you have multiple families, it’s where your *oldest* swimmer practices the most.  If you’re a Lodi family, it’s defaulted to SP West.  In that folder, you’ll find ribbons, bag tags, sometimes flyers, t-shirts, you name it.  If something ends up in your folder and it doesn’t belong to you, you can put it in the Coach folder at the front and we’ll find the home.

Bag Tags

There are two types of bag tags that will appear in a folder.  One set comes from your swimmer achieving time standards.  Using these USA Swimming Motivational times, we’ll highlight progress of swimmers after each meet on social media (more on that next).  Shortly thereafter, Coach Lake will add corresponding bag tags to commemorate a swimmer’s accomplishment.  So when they get their first B cut in a stroke, they’ll get a tag they can proudly put on their swim bag.

The second set is more helpful for setting goals.  The general time standard bag tag shows short course and long course time standards for each age group.

This tag also goes on a swimmer’s bag and will get updated each time they move to a new age group.  If your swimmer needs one of these tags, please fill out this form and Coach Lake will get a tag in your swimmer’s folder.

Social Media

Storm Aquatics uses a pair of social media platforms: Facebook and Instagram.  We’ll highlight upcoming events, feature successes of swimmers, and post schedule changes.  If you’re not already following us, it’s a great way to stay in the loop.  Click the links above to follow Storm on socials.
