The Culture We Set

One of the things that separates us from the very largest teams in the LSC is a feeling of community.  While we come from several different zip codes and represent many high schools, our kids aren’t strangers.  Nor should our parents be.  Before COVID, the vast majority of our parents would plan their away meet hotels together, would carpool together, would sit together at meets.  Even if they didn’t recognize a parent, they’d recognize the Storm name and they’d scoot over a bit to make bleacher space and ask how things were going.  I’m hoping we can rekindle a bit of that this year.  We know how difficult it is in 2025 for some folks to just sit with a stranger, to strike up random conversations.  If you get the chance, spend a few minutes with someone you’ve never chatted with at practice.  If you see a Storm shirt at a meet, introduce yourself.  We have a lot of parents that are still rather new to the team and new to the sport.  The impression you make will go a long way in how they view the swim community at large.  And it will make all the difference in how they welcome the next group of new families.

New Winter Folks

For our folks that are new, a few notes.  1) Yes, I do sermons like the above one far too regularly.  Sometimes you’ll like them.  Sometimes you’ll think “is this about me?”  2) I have around 35 pair of sneakers.  Either you or your swimmer will ask, so check that one off the list.  3) We did a Q&A for the new fall families, and you can find the video here.

New and Curious Parent Meeting

On Monday, December 1^st we’ll have a parent meeting at Sun Prairie East High School Library at 5:30.  It’ll run right around an hour.  We’ll talk about things like time standards, progression through the sport, expectations, all that sort of thing.  If you’re new to the sport, I strongly recommend sending someone.  If you’re not new but have some unanswered questions, this is a great time.  If you’re thinking them, so is someone else.

Storm-A-Thon

Our big fundraiser this year will be a Storm-A-Thon.  In essence, swimmers will try and secure some donors over Thanksgiving Break, and then they’ll swim as many laps as they can on December 5^th.  The more money raised, the more prizes they can get.  Details about the event can be found here.  The big goal is to get an average of $100 donated per swimmer.  That would be *massive*. 

If your swimmer is taking part, please sign them up on the event page just as they would a swim meet.

The other half of this event is a silent auction. Items, experiences, crafts, you name it—we're going to try and sell it! One year I was lucky enough to be the high bidder on an aerial tour of Madison. Be creative! As a finder's fee, 10% of the selling price of anything you bring to the auction will be credited to your family's account. Families have until November 24th to get their silent auction item tagged and given to Coach Lake.

If a day isn’t listed below, assume that the schedule is as expected without change.  When in doubt, you can always check the Google Calendar.  Each group is synced to their own calendar.

If you’re swimming the Cambridge meet, don’t use TeamUnify for event numbers.  With the new meet format, meet numbers have likely changed.
