The Winter Classic is Here

This year marks our 10^th Winter Classic.  Over the years, we’ve had 33 different teams take part in the meet, bringing over 2,600 different athletes to Sun Prairie.  Despite snowstorms, COVID years, bad air quality years, all sorts of “fun wrinkles” teams continue to come back because we put together a fantastic event.  That’s 100% due to the care of our parent volunteers.  Thanks so much for all you’ve done over the years to make this meet a significant part of swimmers’ lives in Dane County for so many years.

Though you may not know her face, you’ve all worked with Emily Doughty in her time with Storm.  From apparel orders to swimmer headshots to meet director to coaching, she’s done a little bit of everything.  When she began with Storm in 2017, she was a teacher in Sun Prairie.  Now a mother in Fitchburg, life is pulling her in a different direction and she’s taking a step back from Storm.  Thanks Emily, for all the years and work.

Roles to Fill

With Emily stepping away, we have several roles that could use some additional help.  One of them might be right up your alley. 

Meet Director – Think of this person as a construction foreman.  In the weeks leading up to the meet, they work with coaches, the facilities, and committee chairs to plan and make a special meet.  During the meet itself, they’re overseeing the work of the committees, just ensuring that everything is going to plan.  <This role gets preferred registration before returning families can register for Storm each session>

Volunteer Coordinator – This role is simply making sure that the jobs are filled come gameday.  They adjust things if parents have sick kids and slide folks into spots where needed.  <This role gets preferred registration before returning families can register for Storm each session>

Photographer – Quite simply, they’re capturing moments at swim meets.  Action shots during swims, interactions, telling the story of the meet.  They’re also taking the headshots used for social media posts. <This role gets preferred registration before returning families can register for Storm each session>
