Good luck to Denise Paul, Hannah Parkin, and Julianna Wolfe who are representing Florida Swimming and the Falcons at the 2023 USA Swimming Southern Zone Championships! All three atheltes were selected to this all star team based on performances from this spring. They will compete in a four day meet in North Carolina on July 26-29th. Go Falcons!

Congratulations to Denise Paul, who just spent the weekend at the University of Maryland as part of USA Swimming's Regional Diversity Select Camp. Each camp had 56 athletes from around the country who had to have at least an 11-12 AAA time. Denise completed water workouts, classroom sessions, and group activities as part of her camp experience. Over the weekend, the FAST Falcons had four swimmers compete in USA Swimming’s Southern Zone Open Water championships in North Carolina. Logan Martin, Nicole Shanks, Alexandra Zamecki, and Maya Szylkowski qualified to represent Florida Swimming based on their performance at the Florida Open Water Swimming Championships in April. In their individual events, Maya placed 10th for the 11-12 girls 2K, Logan placed 10th for the 15-16 boys 5K, Nicole placed 14th for the 15-16 girls 5K, and Alexandra placed 30th for the 15-16 girls 5K. Congratulations to Alex Gonzalez who recently attended USA Swimming's Southern Zone Select Camp. Alex was one of 28 boys chosen from the Southern Zone (11 Southern States) to attend this camp. The Southern Zone Select Camp took place at the University of Louisville, where Alex spent three days in pool and classroom sessions competing with and learning from some of the best young swimmers in the country. On Monday, May 8th, the Falcons spent time with Florida Swimming's Safe Sport Director, Mrs. Cori Welbes. Mrs. Welbes led a team building activity with Red, White, Blue, Junior I, Junior II, Senior I, and Senior II swimmers. She then showed a video on friendships and bullying, and each group had a great discussion on how to "be the bigger bird." Congratulations to Bryce LaBonte, who was one of fifty-two athletes from around the country selected to USA Swimming's National Diversity Camp. Bryce will spend four days at the Olympic Training Center, where he will practice twice a day and attend classroom sessions that range from stroke mechanics to sports psychology. The Falcons competed this past weekend at Camp Winona in a 5k or 2k open water swim! Competing in the 5k was Aiden Chang, Jeffrey Wolfe, Logan Martin, Austin Zamecki, Layla Watson, Alexandra Zamecki, Nicole Shanks and Evie Milak. This recognition reflects our commitment to providing a healthy and positive environment free from abuse for all team members. In order to apply for Safe Sport Club Recognition, we were required to develop and implement club governance measures, Safe Sport policies and reporting mechanisms, Safe Sport best practices as well as training to athletes and parents. Falcons swimmers wrapped up a fantastic weekend of racing at the North FLAGS site in Claremont March 2nd-March 5th.
